Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has issued a news release marking the one year anniversary of the "Year of Community Living Initiative."

In June 2009, President Obama called for a "Year of Community Living" initiative to increase community integration of individuals with disabilities with new partnerships and programs to increase access to affordable housing, empower people to make informed choices, ensure the rights of all people with disabilities, and advance employment of people with disabilities.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius as led the charge for these major reforms. Through an alliance across the Department of Health and Human Services and with other Federal agencies, advances have been made to improve the lives of people with all disabilities and protect their right to live meaningful lives within the community.

More information and details on the advances that have been made during this first year are available here.
